B.C. pausing consultation on proposed changes to workplace safety legislation following provincial election call

WorkSafeBC is pausing its public consultation on proposed changes to the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation after Premier David Eby called a snap provincial election for Oct. 24.

From an employer’s perspective, the pause impacts proposed amendments that would add a new Part 4.1 — titled ‘Psychological Health and Safety, Harassment and Violence’ — to the regulation. Before the election call, WorkSafeBC had already extended the deadline for comments on the amendments from Oct. 9 to Nov. 6.

The pause is procedural and WorkSafeBC will consider feedback already submitted when it resumes the consultation.
